About Rice & Sambal

BYOB Indonesian Supper Club

Located at 1911 Passyunk Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19148, Rice & Sambal operates as a restaurant serving Philadelphia in Pennsylvania. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it.

Because this group is broad, judging a listing on freshness, turnover and how consistent recent reviews are tends to work better than judging by decor or price range alone. Most kitchens in Philadelphia will adjust a dish for common dietary needs like gluten-free or vegetarian if you ask when ordering. Hours vary widely: diners and fast-food chains often stay open late or around the clock, while bakeries and cafes tend to open early and close mid-afternoon. Catering and food delivery businesses in Pennsylvania usually require advance notice, from a day for a small order up to a week or more for a large event, so it is worth contacting them early.

Hours are published for 2 days a week. Typical hours are 6–8:30 PM. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (215) 279-7052. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. Its website is ricensambal.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.

Customers rate it 4.8 out of 5 on Google across 52 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded restaurants in Philadelphia.

Philadelphia is in Pennsylvania, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Getting around Philadelphia is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across Pennsylvania's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

I felt like walking into someone’s beautiful home and they fed me delicious meals that I have never experienced before. THIS PLACE IS A MUST. If you never had Indonesian food, please dive into this restaurant. They explain each dish, and you’re riding the wave of amazing flavors. The atmosphere is beautiful and feels like home. The service was also exceptional, I felt cared for. ALL THE FOOD WAS AMAZING I WILL RETURN. Also all the food you get is well worth the price!

We chose Rice & Sambal for my birthday dinner and it could not have been any better! We went on a Friday night for the 5 course prix fixe menu- I got the vegan option, my partner got the non-vegan option and neither one of us was disappointed! Each course was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G- we were both blown away by the unique flavors, textures and creativity put into each dish. Everything was cooked to perfection. The atmosphere was beautiful and calm and service was outstanding. We didn't feel rushed and could actually enjoy being out to dinner. It is near impossible for my partner and I to agree on a restaurant, let alone one that we both love, but Rice and Sambal fit the bill. It was our best meal out in a very long time and we already have plans to go back for our anniversary. Do not sleep on getting a reservation here- you will not be disappointed!

Food was absolutely phenomenal, one of the best meals I can remember. We did the a Vegan Liwetan and it blew my mind. The owners were extremely kind as well and this is definetly a must visit. Can’t wait to go back!

Highly recommended by our cookbook author friend, and what a surpriseβ€”this place is incredible! The food is phenomenal. It’s a set menu, and while I don’t usually like spicy food, I genuinely enjoyed every sambal. The strawberry sambal was absolutely delicious (I did have to take a few sips of water for that one!). Every dish was beautifully presented and oh so delicious. A true gem!

Wanted more seasoning and flavoring to shine through and didn’t quite get that. The Bone Marrow dish was the most flavorful. Very kind and intimate restaurant. Someone opted to leave as they didn’t specify vegetarian when booking the reservation causing issues, so make sure to specify that.
